ABOUT

DEAR LOVEJOY COMMUNITY

Barrett's Picture 1.jpg

In October 2019, I was appointed to serve in Position 7 on the Lovejoy School Board. I am excited to announce that I am seeking election this spring to continue serving on the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees. I believe in the “Lovejoy Culture of Excellence” that is apparent in our children’s academic and athletic accomplishments, which are a direct reflection of this community’s dedication to the idea.  It has been my honor to serve our district in various leadership roles over the past 12 years.  This experience has excited my passion to continue my service to support our children, teachers, community, and administrators.   As President of the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools (2014), we were able to capture the support of the community towards our financial goals and raise the bar for our monetary commitments to fund enhancements to our educational experience within the district.  My experiences in business, coaching and leadership have allowed me to understand in-depth the challenges public schools face and the opportunities we have here in this district to help our kids dream, believe, lead and achieve to their fullest potential.   With your vote, I will continue to put my energy, time and talents to work for our children and our community.  I would be honored to have your vote on May 2, 2020, for Barrett Owens, Position 7, Lovejoy School Board!

Thank you in advance.

ABOUT BARRETT

ABOUT BARRETT

FAMILY

My wife, Paige, and I moved to Lovejoy in 2005 and have a son, Cooper (6th grade) and two daughters, Macy and Jade (4th and 9th grade) who are attending Lovejoy Schools. My sister Britini and her two sons also attend Lovejoy Schools and live in Stacy Ridge as well as my mom Lana Owens who lived in Heritage Ranch for 9 years prior to moving to Stacy Ridge.  I currently serve in Position 7 on the School Board at Lovejoy ISD and a past President of the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools. In addition, I am Vice President of Finance for the Grand Slam Booster Club and Coach Fall Softball for the Lovejoy High School Players.

COACHING

Coaching is a passion of mine, allowing me to have an impact on the journey of our children. Thru the years I have coached in 300 plus club baseball, softball and basketball games.  Currently I am wrapping up the Fall Ball Season coaching for the High School Softball Program here at Lovejoy. In addition, I coach two club teams (Softball and Baseball). These experiences have allowed me to understand firsthand the opportunities we have as leaders to help guide our children in their growth and development.

WORSHIP

My family and I attend Chase Oaks Church and have had the opportunity to fellow ship with many our Lovejoy Families and Friends in various bible studies and youth events.  Paige and I have helped facilitate and lead both youth and couples’ studies at Creekwood and Chase Oaks and will continue in the coming years. We currently are involved in Men’s, Women’s and Couples Bible Studies and well as youth ministry programs.  While attending Creekwood I served as both Strategic Planning Chair and Board of Trustees Chair.

EDUCATION & BUSINESS

I graduated from UNT in '97 with a BBA in Finance. Out of college I worked in the Property and Casualty Insurance business and began building homes.  From there I transitioned into developing my own business which has shaped my character and leadership skills. In '08 I served as CLO and Director of First National Bank of Trenton. After my tenure there I focused on my passion for real estate, home building and finance.

HOBBIES

Hobbies include aviation, golf, hunting, travel and snow skiing.   Although, my golf game is less about the score and more about the experience, I can assure you my aviation skills are excellent.  My family and I are blessed to enjoy each of these hobbies together with our friends in the community.  At my home we believe in both working hard and playing hard.

SERVICE

My wife and I have a core belief to serve those around us with our time and talents and to give back with our resources.  School Board is a great opportunity for us to serve our children. Paige and I work together to balance our lives so that I can serve our community in this role.

EXPERIENCE
Through my professional and volunteer career I have challenged myself as a servant leader to lead by example.   The golden rule governs my mindset “treat others how you want to be treated”. This mindset has propelled me to leadership roles in most of my experiences.  Servant Leadership is a selfless process of investment into the lives of those around you. I believe we all have an obligation to this. My business and volunteer experiences have shaped my abilities to be appropriate and right to serve the district in this role.

Lovejoy’s continued excellence is dependent on us, the community it serves. It is vital that we have the appropriate leadership in place to guide and direct our strategic priorities and hold accountable the parties responsible for execution.  I have the experience, energy, and expertise to fulfill this obligation.

Election day is May 2, 2020.  With this I humbly ask for your vote.

My promise is I will serve this district to the best of my abilities
